
LIVONIA (WWJ) - Two Detroiters have been charged -- one with murder -- after an argument at a Livonia party store descended into violence on Tuesday morning, authorities said.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy announced on Friday that Lania Conn, 24, and Cory Campbell, 25, both of Detroit, were charged in connection to an incident that led to the shooting death of 27-year-old Markayla Sadler of Redford at Nicolas Liquor along Merriman Road at I-96.
According to police, the fatal encountered unfolded around 12:53 a.m. with officers responding to the party store on reports of a shooting.
When police arrived at the scene, they discovered the victim, later idtenfied as Sadler, in the parking lot with a gunshot wound to the head.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to investigators, there was an verbal argument inside the store between Conn and Sadler. Conn ended up leaving the store with a 24-year-old Warren man in the driver's side of their vehicle, but a physical fight broke out between the two women.
"It is alleged that Defendant Conn produced and fired a handgun, fatally wounding Ms. Sadler," Worthy said.
Campbell — who was an acquaintance of the victim, according to police — also had a handgun on him. He returned fire, shooting both the Conn and a 24-year-old Warren man who was with her.
Police arrested Conn and the 24-year-old man she was with fled from the scene. Police noted that the woman did have a concealed pistol license (CPL).
Officers also arrested Campbell. Police said he had an expired CPL.
Both guns were recovered by police at the scene.
Police said it appears that the two women involved did not know each other prior to their argument inside the store.
Conn has been charged with one count of Second-Degree Murder, and one count of Felony Firearm. Campbell has been charged with one count of Carrying a Concealed Weapon.
They are expected to be arraigned on Friday.
