EASTPOINTE (WWJ) – A woman is facing charges for allegedly spitting on police officers at a gas station in Eastpointe over the weekend.
Shaina Sarah Perez, 35, has been charged with three counts of assaulting a police officer, one count of assault and battery and one count of attempting to resist and obstruct arrest.
The incident unfolded on April 10 at a Speedway gas station near 9 Mile Road and I-94.
Police officers from Eastpointe and St. Clair Shores responded to the gas station for an assault in progress, where they found Perez being uncooperative.
Authorities say Perez “elected to spit on three of the St. Clair Shores officers.”
Eastpointe officers eventually took her into custody. While that was happening, officials say Perez again began to spit on officers and tried to flee the scene.
Authorities did not release any further information about the assault in progress that prompted the initial call.
Perez was arraigned Tuesday in 38th District Court. Her bond was set at $50,000 cash/surety.
