ALLEN PARK (WWJ) -- Michigan State Police troopers were on the scene Tuesday morning as a woman gave birth on the freeway.

According to officials, at approximately 7:05 a.m., a call came in of a mother going into labor -- with contractions only three minutes apart -- along I-94 and M-39 in Allen Park.

Troopers from the Metro South Post along with the Allen Park Fire Department were dispatched to assist.

Upon their arrival, MSP said the mother was having contractions and the dad was helping her out "the best he could."

Within moments, the woman's water broke and the child was quickly delivered by the father. Troopers covered the brand new baby boy with a blanket and Allen Park EMS arrived to tend to the child and mother.

The mother and baby were transported to a local hospital and according to the latest report, the family is doing well.

"As we always say in police work you just never know what the next call will be!" tweeted the MSP.
