DETROIT (WWJ) -- Police have revealed more details about the tragic event that left a woman dead early on Friday morning in Detroit.

WWJ’s Charlie Langton reports that the 20-year-old woman who died in the Detroit River had jumped in to save her friend who had slipped.

Detroit Police Commander Keith Williams says she and the two other women were at Ford Park along Lenox Street near Scripps Street just before 4 a.m.

The two other women -- ages 26 and 35 -- were rescued from the river and taken to the hospital, where their conditions remain unknown.

Other details, including why the women were at the park overnight and if drugs or alcohol were involved, remain unclear as the investigation by Detroit Police continues.
