(WWJ) A Wyandotte man has been arrested and charged with murder, nearly two years after he allegedly beat his girlfriend to death.
The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office announced 39-year-old Charles Whitman was taken into custody Wednesday, and arraigned in 27th District Court Thursday on one count of second degree murder.
He was remanded to jail without bond.
Early in the morning of Feb. 2, 2019, police were called to an apartment in the 1150 block of Sycamore Street, where Whitman lived with the victim, 55-year-old Linda Breen.
When police entered, the defendant was there, according to prosecutors. Officers then went to the bedroom to find Breen on a bed covered in blood. She was pronounced dead at the scene, and Whitman was taken into custody.
A warrant request was submitted to the Prosecutor’s Office, but when it was returned for further investigative work, Whitman was released.
The work was completed, recently returned to WCPO, and Whitman was arrested for a second time.
He will be back in court for a Probable Cause Conference scheduled for January 21.
A suspected motive for the killing has not been released.
