DETROIT (WWJ) - A woman is hospitalized after a harrowing ordeal at a Detroit gas station on Wednesday where she said was choked and shot at by a group of men.

The victim, a 19-year-old woman from Trenton, told FOX 2 that she had stopped at the Sunoco located in the area of Livernois and Davison when she saw a group of men.

"I went in my car and one of them jumped in my car," she said to FOX 2. "And then he choked me and shot me, and he stole my necklace."

She said she attempted to talk to the man who got in her vehicle, but he ended up open firing on her instead.

"I was trying to talk to him because he’s young like me, and he wouldn’t listen, so he just shot me," she said.

The woman said in the moment, she did not realize she had been shot. It was only afterward when she managed to drive to her father's house nearby that she discovered she was injured.

She is now hospitalized and trying to recover from the incident which she said she thought would never happen to her.

"I’ve been seeing this stuff on the news, and I’m like that’s not going to happen to me because I stay in my lane, I do my thing, I don’t even talk to people," she told FOX 2.

The victim's mother said what happened to her daughter is "not fair."

"What gives you the right to injure someone else’s child, harm another person? I brought this person into the world, and for you to shoot my daughter like she is wild game, it’s not fair."

The victim told FOX 2 she has a tube in her neck and has difficulty walking, drinking and using the bathroom. A GoFundMe page set up to help with her recovery and medical expenses stated she is in critical condition with multiple injuries.

"She was at the wrong place at the wrong time, simply getting gas," her mother wrote on the crowdfunding site. "She cannot work and will have long recovery ahead of her."

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
