After being led on a chase, Boston police officers were surprised to find the driver of the vehicle they'd been pursuing was only 13 years-old. And even more surprised to find out he was armed.

The incident happened around 11:30 p.m. on the 4th of July after an officer noticed a vehicle's registration information didn't match the vehicle, according to the Boston Police Department.

When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, the person behind the wheel refused to comply and continued to drive at a low rate of speed, police say.

Officers were eventually able to get the vehicle to stop, and at that point they realized the teen wasn't old enough to be driving.

"Officers removed the juvenile male and, as they conducted a pat frisk of his person, observed a firearm fall from his leg area to the ground," police said.

The gun was determined to be a .380 Ruger loaded with one round in the chamber and five rounds in the magazine, according to police. At that point, the teen was taken into custody by officers assigned to the department's "Youth Violence Strike Force."

The boy, who was not identified because of his age, is now facing a number of charges, including unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, operation of a motor vehicle without a license, and refusal to stop for a police officer, to name a few. He's expected to be arraigned in Dorchester Juvenile Court.

The teen's arrest is the latest in a string of incidents involving juvenile offenders, according to the Boston Herald. Four teens, ages 15 and 16, are facing charges in connection with a beating that went viral; three teens, ages 13, 14 and 16, allegedly assaulted an off-duty cab driver and vandalized an MBTA train; an allegedly drunk 16-year-old crashed a scooter into a police cruiser; and several teens are facing firearms charges for other various incidents.
