Conservative prime-time host Tucker Carlson has parted ways with Fox News.
In a statement issued Monday, Fox News called the move a mutual decision.
"Fox News Media and Tucker Carlson have agreed to part ways," the statement said. "We thank him for his service to the network as a host and prior to that as a contributor."
The network did not elaborate or offer a reason for the decision.
The statement went on to say Carlson's last program was Friday, April 21. The network said "Fox News Tonight" will continue to air live at 8 p.m. as an interim show helmed by rotating Fox News personalities until a new host is named.
Carlson, who joined Fox in 2009 as a contributor and was the network's most-watched host, has not yet commented on the situation.
Carlson's departure comes nearly one week after Fox reached a $787.5 million settlement agreement with Dominion Voting Systems in a defamation lawsuit. Dominion was seeking $1.6 billion in damages over claims that Fox, among other things, falsely reported its voting machines were "rigged" and switched millions of votes from Donald Trump to Joe Biden in the 2020 election.
A person familiar with the matter told The Washington Post that comments made by Carlson criticizing Fox management, which were revealed in the Dominion case, played a role in his departure.
