Two people were rescued after being held hostage inside a home in Colorado that was said to be booby-trapped by a man who was also armed with multiple weapons.
The Boulder Police Department said the suspect had barricaded himself inside the home, but was eventually taken into custody early Tuesday after an hours-long standoff.
The incident unfolded late Monday night when Boulder police received information from Lafayette police about a possible hostage situation inside the city.
According to Fox3 Now, which was listening to police scanners, the suspect had booby-trapped the house, was armed with two AK-47s and had a dog that was fitted with explosives.
Officers responded to the scene with a SWAT team and rescued two people from inside the home.
"During the rescue, 1 officer fired their gun. No one was struck," Boulder Police said. "The suspect then barricaded himself inside the home."
Because the suspect was believed to be armed with multiple weapons, police evacuated neighbors from nearby homes and closed off roads to the area.
About three hours after the incident began, police said the suspect had been taken into custody. Further details about his arrest were not provided.
Despite some reports initially indicating "multiple fatalities" at the scene, Boulder police said they had no confirmed reports of any deaths.
Police did not immediately identify the suspect or provide any details on a possible motive. In a tweet, the department said it anticipated releasing more information later Tuesday.
