(WWJ) A person of interest is custody in connection with as many as three murders, including the execution-style killings of a woman and a 6-year-old boy in Warren.
Warren police said search warrants were executed Friday at a home in the 4200 block of Margate Lane in West Bloomfield in connection with the homicide investigation. This is in a neighborhood east of Middlebelt Rd., and south of West Long Lake Rd.
WWJ's Charlie Langton reports two vehicles were towed from the scene, at least one bag of evidence was recovered by police, and a K 9 team was sweeping the house searching for more evidence.
"Not much is known at this time about the connection between the Warren murders, the person in custody and this West Bloomfield home," Langton said.
Warren police have been working overtime searching for the suspect or suspects responsible for the murders of the 28-year-old woman and child, whose bodies were found a week ago in the basement of a home on Otis Avenue near 9 Mile Rd. and Dequindre. They were fatally shot.
Police said the killings were connected to the murder of a man on Hyde Park Dr. in Detroit earlier that morning.
The 31-year-old man, discovered dead in a burned out car, was the father of the murdered boy, Warren Police Commissioner Bill Dwyer said.
"The execution style killing of the 6-year-old boy is truly evil, unthinkable and senseless, and shows no regard for life," Dwyer told reporters last week. "Only monsters or godless creatures would pull the trigger on a 6-year-old and execute a child."
As for as a motive, Dwyer said preliminary information indicated the deaths may be drug-related, adding that he hoped to get the FBI involved in the case.
The name of the person in custody was not immediately released.
