To top off the weird weekend of weather in Michigan, tornados have been spotted in the northeastern part of the state. Strange cloud patterns were also spotted throughout the southern part of the state on Saturday.
The National Weather Service has not officially reported that a tornado touched down. Still, video and photos from residents in the Port Austin area showed what appears to be a tornado on the ground.
There appear to be scattered trees and powerlines down across the tip of the Thumb. The NWS plans to work with the county’s emergency management teams to determine areas that need a field survey team to assess the damage on the ground.
It appears that there will be two confirmed tornadoes, one in Port Austin and the other in Ionia County.
It’s probable that there was also a tornado in Mecosta and Clare counties and a tornado touchdown near Eaton rapids, MLive Michigan reported.
The entire state was under several tornado warnings, and shelf clouds were spotted in Alaiedon Township, looking north towards Okemos.
Extreme weather was present all over the state, and Gov. Whitmer took to Twitter, sharing that if residents need assistance, they should call 211.
