Yes, LSU does plan to work out All-American cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. at wide receiver. No, it hasn't happened yet.

The delay is due to what coach Ed Orgeron described as a "minor camp injury," but not something he expects will keep the star defender out long. Orgeron has said this offseason there'd be a handful of plays drawn up for the junior to see what he has at the position, which was going to begin this week.

"We were going to do it the day he got a minor injury," Orgeron said, but did not specify the nature of Stingley's injury. "And I talked to Jake and I talked to Derek about the type of plays we were going to run."

Stingley could be back to practice as early as Monday, his coach said, though that timeline would keep him out for the team's first full scrimmage at Tiger Stadium, scheduled for Saturday. The team will reassess next week and will possibly work on those offensive sets at that point.

"I don’t know if he’s going to be full speed next week," Orgeron said. "Obviously I’m not going to play him both ways if he’s not full speed. We’re going to have to play that by ear."

GLEN LOGAN'S BROKEN FOOT

Orgeron revealed earlier this week that defensive lineman Glen Logan had suffered an injury, which the coach revealed Thursday to be a small break in his foot.

The injury is difficult news for a player that opted to return for a 6th season, but his coach was optimistic Logan will be back in action at some point.

"It's going to take a little bit of time to heal," Orgeron said. "We'll get him back some time this season."

NEARING 100% VACCINATED

When LSU's coach spoke Thursday the team only had one player on its roster that had yet to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, and he expected that unidentified player to get the shot soon.

The LSU roster has long been above the threshold set forth by the SEC for reduced regulations pertaining to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Teams could be forced to forfeit games if they don't have enough players to compete due to outbreaks.

“Nobody was forced to do it. There were some reservations with some guys, they … spoke to some people," Orgeron said. "But, again, the situation is it’s best for the team if you are vaccinated.”
