It’s not a guarantee for a highly ranked high school football prospect at University High School in Baton Rouge to commit to LSU.
Dylan Moses played for three seasons at U-High before finishing his prep career at IMG Academy in Florida and was considered one of the best linebackers in high school, when he chose to play at Alabama over LSU.
Linebacker Christian Harris was a four-star prospect at U-High in 2018 and chose to go to Alabama.
After going to school on the LSU campus, some players want to live and play somewhere else. But for Lamar Brown, home is where the heart is, and the highly talented lineman gave his verbal pledge to LSU, despite a strong push from Texas A&M. ESPN reports Brown was still undecided the night before he finally announced his commitment.
ESPN 2 televised Brown’s announcement, and he delighted the crowd around him by putting on an LSU hat and shedding a jacket to show off his gold LSU baseball jersey.
“It always started off with Coach (Brian) Kelly ninth-grade year. Eighth or ninth grade year, that was my first offer. He always believed in me. Just the culture here, playing for Baton Rouge, playing for the state of Louisiana, it means a lot,” said Brown
This is a big commitment to get and it’s not because Brown’s size is 6-5, 285 pounds. ESPN has Brown as its number one recruit in Class of 2026.
If Brown remains ranked number one, he would be the first number one recruit in the nation to attend LSU since St. Augustine running back Leonard Fournette in 2014.
He’s listed on recruiting websites as an athlete, because he could be an outstanding offensive lineman or defensive lineman. But his desire is to play on the D-line.
“I like the offensive line too, but I feel like to get to the next level for developing and everything, just taking it to the next level for defensive line,” said Brown.
LSU’s class now features three five-star prospects and two of them are defensive linemen. Edna Karr’s defensive linemen Richard Anderson is the other one.
On3/Rivals now has LSU’s 2026 class ranked as the sixth best in the country.
The Tigers on Thursday also received a verbal pledge from three-star edge rusher DeAnthony Lafayette from Orlando, Florida.
Lafayette chose LSU over Oklahoma and Miami. He had 73 tackles, 17.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and 47 quarterback hurries his junior season.
