The story of the Tigers' first loss at the College World Series was Tre' Morgan getting thrown out at home on an incredible defensive play. It's only fitting he flipped the script in a do-or-die rematch.
Like that other play, this one also happened in the 8th inning as Wake Forest threatened with runners on first and third and 1 out. The Demon Deacons were in that position because of a wild pitch on a strikeout that allowed Jack Winnay to reach first, and Justin Johnson to move to third.

Wake put the suicide squeeze on with Marek Houston, and it looked like it would work after a quality bunt down the first base line. But the Demon Deacons made the mistake of testing Morgan, who charged the ball at full speed and made an acrobatic flip to home, where catcher Alex Milazzo slapped the tag on Johnson just before he reached the play.
Tommy Hawke lined out to left field to end the threat, which preserved a shutout performance by ace Paul Skenes, who completed 8 innings of a 0-0 game in an epic pitching showdown. Wake ace Rhett Lowder shut out the Tigers through 7 innings before leaving the game.
The Tigers and Demon Deacons were playing in a winner-take-all rematch for the right to face Florida in the title series.
