LSU baseball hasn't done much wrong in the 2023 season, but they'll have to battle back to the top of the rankings after their first major slip-up.
The Tigers, who spent 12 weeks atop all major college baseball polls, have slipped to No. 2 after back-to-back losses on the road against Auburn, the second a 12-2 shellacking that marked LSU's first shortened loss under the NCAA's run rule.
The Tigers only dropped one spot after their first series loss of the season, and slotted in behind Wake Forest with a record of 35-7. That was the case in each of D1Baseball.com's poll, along with Baseball America and the USA Today Coaches Poll.
Here are the top five of each poll:
D1Baseball
- 1. Wake Forest (39-7)
- 2. LSU (37-10)
- 3. Arkansas (36-12)
- 4. Stanford (31-13)
- 5. Vanderbilt (34-13)
Baseball America
- 1. Wake Forest
- 2. LSU
- 3. Vanderbilt
- 4. Arkansas
- 5. Stanford
USAT Coaches Poll
- 1. Wake Forest
- 2. LSU
- 3. Arkansas
- 4. Vanderbilt
- 5. Florida (37-12)
LSU (16-7 in SEC) has also slipped a half-game behind Arkansas (17-7 SEC) in the SEC West standings.
Auburn climbed into the No. 25 spot in Baseball America's rankings, but not in the others. Still, the SEC is well represented with Arkansas, Vanderbilt, Florida and South Carolina in the top 10 of each poll. Kentucky is also ranked in all three polls, while Tennessee is ranked in two of the three.
LSU is back in action on Tuesday against Northwestern State before it aims to right the ship with a Friday-Sunday series against Mississippi State at Alex Box Stadium.
