Ed Orgeron made it clear he's heard the rumblings about his job status as LSU's football coach, but that doesn't mean he's listening to it. And he has no plans to address it with his team.

The Tigers coach responded to the hot-seat rumblings in his Monday press conference, days after a blowout loss at the hands of Kentucky that followed up a deflating home loss to Auburn.

"That’s for me to handle," Orgeron said. "Nobody’s told me about my job status. I haven’t had any discussion about it. As far as I know I’m the head coach of the LSU Tigers. That’s all that matters.”

It was a break from the typical cadence of Orgeron's answers in press settings, but he made clear where his priorities sit as his team looks to right the ship following a 3-3 start with even more daunting matchups on deck. LSU faces No. 20 Florida at home this week, followed by No. 12 Ole Miss, No. 5 Alabama, then No. 17 Arkansas.

Reports surfaced ahead of the matchup with Kentucky that Orgeron's seat was indeed getting warm despite being less than two seasons removed from a College Football Playoff title. The Tigers have gone 8-8 since the championship game in January, 2020.

LSU Athletic Director Scott Woodward was on hand to watch the 42-21 defeat in Lexington. The last head coach firing for Woodward was the departure of Kevin Sumlin at Texas A&M. That move didn't come until after the season.

“I could read everything you guys could write. I could think about it now and read all that stuff and go and tell [the team about it] about it. I don’t listen to all that stuff. The best thing for me to do is be very positive, understand the expectations of LSU. I will say this and I will say it again: No one has to tell me about the LSU expectations. I know them, I was born with them," Orgeron said. "So I understand. I understand this is not the LSU standard of performance. I understand my job. I get it totally. I know exactly where I’m at, and I’m going to go to work as hard as I can today, and don’t blink. I promise you, I will not blink for anyone."
