One ever-present challenge of playing football in Louisiana: the weather, most notably the heat and humidity, in Louisiana.
That's something the team is apparently looking to the helmet to help alleviate, with the program set to partner with Tigeraire, a Louisiana-based company that's developed technology to retrofit football helmets with air-conditioning units ... seriously.
The company shared a video this week that included players trying on the helmets and reacting this week. Can't see the video below? Click here.
“We’re always looking at new technologies, looking at anything new, cutting edge," said Jack Marucci, LSU's director of athletic training, in the video. "This is what Tigeraire has brought to us.”
The product itself is called the Cyclone v2. How does it work?
"Increased airflow around your face and head helps to cool you off by improving your body's ability to sweat more efficiently -- wicking away the excess moisture on your skin at a faster rate," reads the company's website. "The airflow from the Cyclone v2 provides a more breathable and comfortable playing environment for athletes of all ages."
The company, which describes itself as being "born on the bayou" has a testimonial from former LSU star and current Bengals WR Ja'Marr Chase.
The system is billed as having up to 5 hours of battery life. The system itself retails for $185. The program has not yet officially announced any partnership.
The Tigers enter Year 2 of the Brian Kelly era with high expectations after a surprise run to the SEC West title a year ago. LSU kicks off its season against Florida State at Camping World Stadium in Orlando on Sept. 3.
