LSU players were wearing T-shirts that read 1-0 during initial warmups before the season opener against Clemson on Saturday night.
The Tigers accomplished their mission, beating Clemson, and starting the 2025 season 1-0.
Now that the Tigers are moving on to week 2, it sounds like they’ll keep wearing those T-shirts because the mantra is not changing.
“Now we are going 1-0 again, as I spoke about in the offseason, it was not just about Clemson, it’s about a new mindset that we have taken on, and you’ll hear us again talking about going 1-0,” Nussmeier said.
It was LSU’s first season-opening win since 2019, and they avoided the school’s first-ever six-game losing streak in season openers.
It was also the first time Brian Kelly defeated a Top 5 opponent on the road; he was previously 0-3.
The Tigers will play the next three games at home, and they’ll have a chance to go 2-0, excuse me 1-0, when they host Louisiana Tech at 6:30 this Saturday.
The Bulldogs opened their season with a 24-0 shutout win over Southeastern Louisiana.
Tech’s defense picked up where it left off last year. The Bulldogs ranked 12th in total defense last year and held the Lions to 271 total yards. La Tech also scored a defensive touchdown on an 80-yard fumble return for a touchdown by defensive back Kam Franklin.
The Bulldogs were 5-8 last season, and their offense held them back. In the offseason, Tech hired offensive coordinator Tony Franklin, who was the OC previously in Ruston and the Bulldogs had some really good offenses from 2010 to 2012.
Franklin went to Cal after he left La Tech and coached Jared Goff.
But it looks like this La Tech offense is still a work in progress. They had just 262 total yards against SLU and scored just two offensive touchdowns.
