A judge has ordered LSU to pay out the remainder of a former football assistant's salary after his firing was deemed improper, according to a report from The Advocate.

The nearly half-million was ordered by a state judge to be paid to James Cregg, who was fired for cause in 2021 and accused of violating NCAA rules. Officials had accused Cregg of holding in-person meetings with recruits during a time when such meetings were banned under COVID restrictions.

Cregg, the former offensive line coach brought a lawsuit against the university, claiming that he had never broken NCAA rules. Then head coach Ed Orgeron hired Brad Davis, who has been retained on Brian Kelly's staff, in Cregg's place.

The 47-year-old was entering the final year of his deal at the time of his firing, and was just one season removed from leading the Tigers' offensive line to the Joe Moore Award as the NCAA's best OL.
