LSU baseball has its title, and now it has a new pitching coach.
The Tigers are hiring former Texas A&M pitching coach and associate head coach Nate Yeskie. The news was first reported by Kendall Rogers of D1Baseball.
The move was necessary due to Wes Johnson's departure to become the head coach at Georgia. He spent one season in Baton Rouge after departing a post as the Minnesota Twins pitching coach.
The Tigers' pitching staff was massively successful in their run to a 7th national title, during which they defeated Florida in a three-game set without pitching ace Paul Skenes at all, who is widely expected to be a top pick in the upcoming MLB draft.
Yeskie has been with the Aggies the past two seasons, but prior to that he was on Jay Johnson's staff with Arizona, which included a run to the College World Series in 2021.
“I couldn’t be more excited to add Nate Yeskie as our new pitching coach,” Johnson said in a press release. “Nate has an unmatched track record in college baseball for pitching coaches relative to developing pitching talent for professional baseball, College World Series trips, and winning in general. His coaching acumen is very complete and current, and future pitchers at LSU will develop to their highest potential because of the opportunity to work with Coach Yeskie.
Prior to joining the Aggies, Yeskie spent more than a decade as an assistant with Oregon State. Oregon State earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament in 10 of 11 seasons, including a national title run in 2018. Yeskie's pitchers led the nation once and was atop the Pac-12 in ERA three times.
