LSU had some negative energy it needed to work out after a painful opening loss to Florida State, and unfortunately for Southern -- they had the misfortune of being next on the list.
Before 15 minutes had ticked off the clock, the Tigers had already laid a beatdown of epic proportions on their cross-rival. Through a combination of turnovers, a blocked punt and efficient offense, LSU put up 37 points in the first quarter, the most ever in a single quarter in program history.

The previous school record was 35.
Here's how the points got scored:
- 13:25: Jayden Daniels 18-yard TD run (Ramos kick)
- 11:46: Josh Williams 5-yard TD run (Ramos kick)
- 7:16: Daniels to Jack Bech 17-yard TD (Ramos kick)
- 7:07: Micah Baskerville interception TD (Ramos kick)
- 4:44: Daniels to Malik Nabers 5-yard TD (Ramos kick)
- 1:31: Baskerville blocked punt for safety
Daniels was 10-11 for 137 yards and 3 TD passes, along with 3 rushes for 10 yards and another TD before Garrett Nussmeier took over. LSU outgained Southern 204 yards to 19 in the opening frame.
It was a rough start in virtually ever way for Southern, facing off with the Tigers in a cross-town matchup for the first time in each program's history. The Tigers also blocked a punt prior to the end of the first quarter, and Brian Thomas found his way into the end zone for a 44-0 lead on the first play of the second quarter.
LSU entered the game as 49.5-point favorites.
