LSU had a bit of a wait before it saw its third College World Series hero go off the board in the MLB Draft, but Ty Floyd will make his new home with the Cincinnati Reds after being picked No. 38 overall.

The right-hander was snagged during the competitive balance round, marking a bit of a slide for Floyd after being projected as a possible first-rounder.

Floyd was overshadowed by LSU ace Paul Skenes much of the year, but that didn't take away from a 7-0 regular season. It was also Floyd who put out a 17-strikeout performance to open the title series against Florida, a mark that tied the CWS record for a 9-inning game.

In that game Floyd went 8 innings, allowing just three runs on 8 eight hits. The 17 strikeouts were the most ever by an LSU player in a College World Series game. Floyd finished his season with a 4.35 ERA in 91.0 innings, recording 37 walks and 120 Ks. Floyd finished No. 4 in the SEC in strikeouts (120) and No. 5 in the league in opponent batting avg. (.208), and his strikeouts total (120) placed him No. 12 in the nation.

Floyd's selection marked the first time in LSU history the program has had three selections in the first two rounds, with Skenes and Dylan Crews going at 1 and 2 to the Pirates and Nationals, respectively. That also made history as the first time a pair of teammates had been selected with the top two picks in the MLB draft. It was the third time in LSU history it had two first-round picks in the same draft.

Grant Taylor, who missed the 2023 season due to an elbow injury, was picked by the Chicago White Sox in the second round at No. 51 overall.

Teammates Tre' Morgan, Jordan Thompson and Cade Beloso are also hopeful to be selected in the 2023 MLB Draft. The event continues on Monday with Rounds 3-10, followed by Rounds 11-20 on Tuesday.
