Thursday night’s LSU/Wake Forest baseball game was an instant classic, and viewers made it the most-watched College World Series game in five years.
According to Nielsen estimates quoted by sportsmediawatch.com, the CWS semifinal averaged 2.09 million viewers. That’s the highest viewership for a CWS contest since 2018’s final between Oregon State and Arkansas. What’s more amazing about Thursday night’s rating is that the LSU/Wake Forest game aired on ESPN2 opposite the NBA Draft in the main ESPN network.
The website also reports that the three-game series between the Tigers and the Demon Deacons recorded the three largest College World Series audiences ever on the ESPN networks.
LSU will seek its first national baseball championship since 2009 when it takes on Florida in the best-of-three CWS Championship Series this weekend. Game 1 is Saturday at 6 p.m. on WWL.
