LSU pitcher Paul Skenes is the winner of the 2023 Dick Howser Trophy.
The award, voted on by members of the National College Baseball Writers Association, goes to the best player in collegiate baseball. Skenes is the second LSU player to win it. LSU's Eddy Furness won it in 1998.
Skenes leads all schools in strikeouts this season, with 188. The right-hander's ERA of 1.77 is second nationwide.
The Howser award is given in recognition not only of superior play, but also character, leadership and courage.
"He has established himself as head and shoulders above any pitcher in NCAA Division I this season as well as a team leader and community service champion," said David Feaster, Howser Trophy chairman. "His tremendous talent also has helped LSU make the NCAA World Series field for the 19th time overall and the first time since 2017."
