Alvin Kamara was on the field for the New Orleans Saints after what he jokingly called a first-round bye.

Kamara missed the Saints regular season finale after testing positive for COVID-19 roughly a week and a half ago, but the Saints star said he was fortunate to have been mostly symptom free and healthy after dealing with the coronavirus.

He added that he was happy to be able to help the Saints secure the a 21-9 Wild Card round win against the Chicago Bears.

“I got a bye-week,” he said. “So it’s helps, obviously, just having that down time. You have no choice but to sit and recover and get your body back right. But I felt good. I felt like I didn’t miss a beat.”

Kamara rushed for 99 yards and touchdown on 23 carries and also caught two passes for 17 yards in the win.

Saints coach Sean Payton said he felt like Kamara was prepared as the team used videoconferencing and other technologies to all Kamara to remotely prepare for Sunday’s game.

“I think there are some players that it might have affected more, but he is one of those players that he understands what we are doing formationally, so it made that transition a little bit smoother,” Payton said. “It was certainly good having him back in the lineup."
