The New Orleans Saints are out of the playoffs; and Drew Brees, 43, is once again faced with the decision to play another season or to retire. If the 30-20 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is the last game for Brees, it is likely not how he, or many Saints fans, envisioned the end of his career.
While the final result may be a bitter pill to swallow for many, there was a great moment after the game. Brees and his family were back on the field, soaking it in. Tom Brady came out to talk to Brees, and the future Hall-of-Famer ended up throwing a pass to the kid of another future Hall-of-Famer.
“I cried,” former NFL quarterback and host on ENtercom sister station WFAN Boomer Esiason admitted. “It's Drew Brees's end of his career; and it's Tom Brady going out there saying goodbye, one great quarterback to another. Throws a ball to [Brees's] kid. It's like a Hallmark movie. It's beautiful. I had a tear.
“It's emotional,” Esiason continued. “I just felt, seeing it, that this is the way it should end; and this is the way professionals act. This is how you send somebody off, with a very nice way of doing it if, in fact, this is Drew's last year. You're talking about two of the great quarterbacks of all time coming together at the end of the game; and then the kids are involved. Oh, it's very touching.”
