The New Orleans Saints have a quick turnaround after Sunday's loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, hosting the Denver Broncos on Thursday night.
The Saints' defense laid an egg in the second half, missing multiple tackles that allowed the Buccaneers to make big gains and to outscore the Saints 27-0 in the final 30 minutes of play.
Is it possible that they can correct the issues with tackling that haunted them against the Buccaneers? NFL Analyst Mike Detillier isn't holding his breath.
"You don't," Detillier said to WWL's Tommy Tucker. "You got a day to heal. You go through the walkthroughs. You're not practicing tackling on a Wednesday before a Thursday game."
Detillier says the Saints' tackling woes are a reflection of the effort the members of the Saints defense are putting into their performance.
"You can talk about bad angles, and sometimes that does happen. You got athletes that can make you look bad, but yesterday, that wasn't the case," Detillier said. "None of them even wrapped up trying to tackle him. It was like a pinball shot--bing, bing, and then he's out into the open field."
Detillier added that the Saints' poor tackling is a bad look for head coach Dennis Allen, who is a defensive specialist.
"In the last couple of weeks, we've seen this, and that is not a good sign when that happens on the head coach's side of the ball."
