The New Orleans Saints appear to have found their next offensive coordinator in 49ers assistant Klint Kubiak.

While the hire can't be completed until after the Super Bowl, it gets positive marks from the Cajun Cannon Bobby Hebert.

"I don’t know how Saints fans could be upset with this," Hebert said. "I don’t know if you got any texts or callers that are anti-this, I’d like to hear their rationale behind that. But I think it’s a big win."

That's the case for several reasons, but one of the biggest being that Kubiak will not represent a first-time play-caller. He has experience as the OC for the Vikings in 2021, a season that saw Kirk Cousins complete 66.3% of his throws for 4,221 yards and 33 touchdowns against just 7 interceptions. That year also saw star WR Justin Jefferson catch 108 passes for 1,616 yards and 10 touchdowns, with the Saints certainly hopeful to see Chris Olave continue to shine after consecutive 1,000-yard seasons to start his career.

Kubiak also has ties to the Kyle Shanahan scheme that has become a gold standard across the NFL, and ties to former NFL head coach Gary Kubiak, along with Texas A&M where Dennis Allen played and got his coaching start, certainly don't hurt, either.

"It’s amazing how you cross paths and I don’t know, I would be surprised if Klint Kubiak does not have success as offensive coordinator, because he’s won and he realizes, even though you’re the passing game coordinator, he realized how important the run game is."

Once the deal with Kubiak is finalized, the next step for the Saints will be to rebuild their offensive staff after several firings and departures. Along with former OC Pete Carmichael, the Saints have also parted ways with WRs coach Kodi Burns, RBs coach Joel Thomas, offensive assistant Bob Bicknell and most recently OL coach Doug Marrone.

"He has to have input in that, and Dennis Allen will trust him," Hebert continued. "He’s really the head coach of the offense now. Even though Dennis Allen is the head coach, Dennis Allen is not running the offense."
