After watching the injury-riddled Saints falter once again to stretch their current losing streak to five games, their longest such run of defeats since the arrival of Sean Payton in 2006, you would forgive the founding father of the Who Dat Nation if he’s feeling a little discouraged.
But Bobby Hebert hasn’t hit rock bottom… yet.
Hebert said after Thursday night’s loss to the Dallas Cowboys that the Black and Gold’s next matchup is a must-win: a showdown (if you can call it that) against the three-win New York Jets.
“If we beat Tampa that’s an upset. We beat them last time, but that’s an upset, come on. But if we lose to the Jets next week, I’m calling in sick. I’m not even doing the post-game. I’m gonna be like, what? We can’t lose to the freakin’ Jets.”
Hebert said the closing kick of the Saints’ schedule features some very winnable games against some bad football teams, and that he thinks New Orleans can finish 2021 strong.
“I'm still optimistic we're going to have a strong close to the season because of who we're playing,” Hebert continued. “I think we're better than them. I think we'll get some guys who are injured back.”
The Saints take on the Jets Sunday, December 12, at noon on WWL.
