The New Orleans Saints quarterback battle continues to be the buzz at the OTA sessions, and Tyler Shough only built on it with a few very loud throws.
Those throws were the deep balls, which he connected on another pair of in this practice for what would've been long touchdowns during 7-on-7 drills.
"Shough throws a beautiful deep ball. ... They’re really throwing the ball well, both of them [Shough and Spencer Rattler]," the Cajun Cannon Bobby Hebert said after Thursday's session.
The first throw went to second-year WR Bub Means, who dusted his defender and was hit in stride for what would've been a long touchdown. Shough hit newly signed WR Donovan Peoples-Jones on a similar play later in practice. The rookie went 9-12. Rattler went 10-12 to continue on his strong start, though one of those missed connections was an underthrown deep ball targeting Rashid Shaheed.
In the end the most impressive ball on the day was one that went incomplete, with the rookie rolling out to his left and throwing across his body while finding Cedrick Wilson up the sideline. Wilson was unable to make the catch with rookie LB Danny Stutsman getting a hand in to knock the ball away, but it was a clear flash of some of the top-end arm talent that led the Saints to pick the former Louisville Cardinal at No. 40 overall in this year's draft.
"I was like, Whoa," Hebert said on SportsTalk. "That's as good as it gets in the history of the NFL. ... I've been there and tried to make this throw."
