The Kellen Moore era officially begins today.
The New Orleans Saints agreed to terms with the former Eagles offensive coordinator to become their new head coach on Tuesday, less than 48 hours after his squad beat the Chiefs for a Super Bowl title in the Caesars Superdome.
Moore will officially be introduced at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday at the team's facility in Metairie.
SAINTS HEAD COACH KELLEN MOORE
"I am excited to join the New Orleans Saints and deeply appreciate the faith that Mrs. Benson and the entire Saints organization have placed in me. I look forward to embracing the challenges ahead and am eager to get started. I would also like to thank the Philadelphia Eagles for an incredible 2024 season. I'm excited to begin this new chapter."
SAINTS GM MICKEY LOOMIS
"I would like to welcome Kellen Moore and his family to New Orleans. He is an outstanding communicator with the ability to lead people and has a clear vision for this football team. Through this head coaching search, we had the opportunity to meet with several impressive candidates and I thank them for their hard work and preparation in this process."
SAINTS OWNER GAYLE BENSON
"At the start of the interview process, it was important to find a head coach who was the right fit for the New Orleans Saints organization. Through the search process, it became clear that Kellen is the right person to help us re-establish a winning program and culture that our fans are accustomed to and have come to expect. I would also like to thank Darren Rizzi for his service as interim coach and leading our team this past season. I am truly grateful to him."
The news brings to a close a long saga that unofficially kicked off when the team opted to fire Dennis Allen after a Week 9 loss to the Panthers that marked the last of a 7-game losing streak. The Saints were one of seven head coaching vacancies, with the other six filled quickly. The Saints' process was protracted and included one coach that landed elsewhere (Aaron Glenn) and a few coaches that opted not to interview in person. The Saints held in-person interviews with Giants OC Mike Kafka, Dolphins DC Anthony Weaver and interim head coach Darren Rizzi. In the end they had to be patient to land Moore, whom they interviewed in person following the NFC Championship but per NFL rules they could not communicate with him during the week of the Super Bowl.
The next big task for Moore will be assembling a staff, then resetting the direction of the team as they seek to return to the postseason for the first time in five years.
