Saints head coach Kellen Moore replaces final minicamp practice with team outing

The New Orleans Saints coaching staff is clearly satisfied with the work they've seen over the first two days of minicamp practices, because there won't be a third.

The team announced Thursday morning that it had called off its final session of the three-day mandatory minicamp, and will instead schedule an outing. Head coach Kellen Moore is still expected to address the media.

Moore's decision tracks with what he's said previously, as well as the decision to limit these practices to just 7-on-7 and 9-on-7 drills, rather than full 11-on-11. Offensive and defensive linemen have been primarily working on individual drills and walkthroughs.

"We’re trying to limit the physicality and put these guys in a really great position to try to be ready to rock and roll for training camp," Moore said after Wednesday's practice, "and I think that’s our big thing is this is really a building block and we just keep growing as we get into training camp."

The nature of the outing was not specified. The team has previously had a group paintball session as well as a community event where they refurbished a community center in the Hollygrove neighborhood. Team bonding has been a major emphasis for Moore in his maiden voyage as an NFL head coach, and it's been well received by his players to this point.

The Saints had 100% attendance at their minicamp session, with a few players held out of on-field drills due to injuries. The first two practices were open to fans, the first time that's happened at the team facility since the 2023 season. The next time we'll see the team on the field will be in late July when they kick off training camp.
