All-Pro safety Tyrann Mathieu officially signed with his hometown Saints on Wednesday, and at least one early indicator suggests it was an exceedingly popular move.
The official NFL Shop site was down on Wednesday evening -- apparently because of a crush of preorders for Mathieu's new Saints jersey.
The Honey Badger caught wind of the mishap, and seemed to have a good laugh over it.
The former Chiefs, Texans and Cardinals standout's arrival in New Orleans seemed all but inevitable after the Saints were the only team he visited in free agency.
Mathieu, who turns 30 next month, spent the last three seasons in Kansas City, where he won his first Super Bowl.
The former LSU standout recently admitted his departure from the Chiefs was painful, particularly with respect to uprooting his family. He said it became increasingly clear throughout last season that the Chiefs didn't seem interested in retaining him despite his seemingly successful tenure there.
Instead, Mathieu returns to his hometown to join a seemingly formidable veteran-laden secondary that also includes Marshawn Lattimore, Marcus Maye, C.J. Gardner-Johnson, Bradley Roby and P.J. Williams.
It was unclear which number Mathieu will wear with the Saints. He has worn No. 32 throughout his professional career, though that number was worn by cornerback Bryce Thompson last season.
