There’s no place like dome! Friday’s Saints training camp session was a PM workout and was held inside the Caesars Superdome ahead of Monday Night football against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Players that were not seen taking part were:
K Wil Lutz
WR Tre’Quan Smith
FB Alex Armah
DT Malcolm Roach
DE Payton Turner
Receiver Tommylee Lewis was also not there and Coach Payton told us he was put on the reserve/injured list.
Good news is that, rookie linebacker Peter Werner was back in attendance along with C/G Will Clapp. Werner did not take part in drill, and remains questionable for suiting up in the next game.
Also, new kicker Aldrick Rosas and safety Jeff Heath were present
Long ball to Hogan wins the night
Coach Sean Payton verified that Jameis Winston will be the Saints starting quarterback on Monday, but he was working with the 2nd team Saturday and made the big play of the night.
He launched a pretty pass down the side line to connect with receiver Chris Hogan on an 80-yard TD bomb. Winston would finish 8 of 12 passing in team drills.
Taysom Hill ended up 12-22 with the first team and scored twice using his legs. He had some short connections with TE Nick Vannett, WR Chris Hogan, TE Juwan Johnson and RB Alvin Kamara.
Safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson was able to break up a pass to the sideline intended for Ty Montgomery, CB Ken Crawley also had a pass break-up, while Hill just missed Marquez Callaway on another pass.
