Saints first 2 preseason games, joint practices will be out west: report

The New Orleans Saints will be holding their training camp out west, and the same will hold true for their first two preseason games.

The Saints are expected to open their preseason slate against the Arizona Cardinals, according to a report from Jeff Duncan of NOLA.com, followed by a matchup with the San Francisco 49ers the following the week.

The Saints are also expected to host the 49ers for joint practices prior to that second preseason game. It's an opportunity to test the team's mettle against one of the top teams in the NFC, and also a reunion for new Saints OC Klint Kubiak, who spent the 2023 season on the 49ers staff as a passing game specialist.

The news was largely expected, with the Saints heading out to Irvine, California for their training camp due to ongoing renovations at the team facility. The Saints will also be working in close proximity to the L.A. Rams and Chargers, each of whom are changing locations for this year's work. The Las Vegas Raiders are also expected to hold at least a portion of their camp in the area, heading to the Costa Mesa facility formerly used by the Chargers and where the Saints visited for joint practices last year.

The Saints will hold their three sets of organized team activities (OTAs) and mandatory minicamp at the team facility in Metairie.

At the conclusion of Saints camp, they'll head home and host their preseason finale in the Caesars Superdome. That game, as well as the rest of their 2024 schedule, is yet to be announced. The NFL will be releasing its full schedule on Wednesday evening, though individual matchups tend to trickle out throughout the day.

This year's schedule will feature a host of intriguing matchups, including road games against the Dallas Cowboys and two-time-reigning champion Kansas City Chiefs, as well as reunion games at the Superdome against Sean Payton and the Denver Broncos, as well as the Raiders in QB Derek Carr's first game against his former team.
