Saints hire former LSU assistant Bo Davis as DL coach: report

The New Orleans Saints have continued to build out their defensive staff by dipping into the college ranks, but this time they've stayed in Louisiana to do it.

The Saints have agreed to longtime college assistant Bo Davis to become their next defensive line coach, according to reports, the same role he held on Brian Kelly's LSU staff last season.

Davis began his coaching career at LSU in 1995 as a graduate assistant and has also had college stints with Alabama, Texas and UTSA, along with NFL roles with the Miami Dolphins, Jacksonville Jaguars and Detroit Lions.

The move continues a trend of college coaches added to Brandon Staley's staff under new head coach Kellen Moore, a group that includes New Orleans native Terry Joseph as defensive pass game coordinator and Peter Sirmon as linebackers coach.

The Saints are expected to shift to a 3-4 defensive scheme to match what Staley has done at his previous stops, which lends an eye to the pro scouting combine in Indianapolis.

Moore had previously built out his offensive staff, led by offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier and several other familiar names, including former Saints RBs coach Joel Thomas and OL coach Brendan Nugent returning to those roles after time elsewhere.
