The New Orleans Saints' depth a tight end took a hit this offseason, and a familiar name looks to be still on their mind to address it.

New Orleans has extended a free agent offer to New Orleans native and former LSU standout Foster Moreau, according to a report from WWL-TV's Brooke Kirchhofer, though he is also receiving interest from other teams.

Moreau, who was a teammate of new Saints QB Derek Carr with the Raiders, stepped away from football following a cancer diagnosis that was discovered as he underwent a physical with team doctors in New Orleans. Moreau expressed confidence that he was beat the disease and make a return to the NFL, though it's unclear exactly when that target might be.

Saints head coach Dennis Allen indicated following the draft that the team could still look to bring in the 5th-year TE, though he also stated that the team was happy with the current state of the depth chart. The Saints inked former UDFA and converted WR Juwan Johnson to a 2-year, $12 million extension, but have otherwise not made any significant additions at the position. New Orleans did not select a TE in a draft that was heavy at the position, and actually traded TE Adam Trautman to the Broncos in a deal that brought in an extra 6th round selection, used to pick Wake Forest WR A.T. Perry.

Taysom Hill, second-year pro Lucas Krull and Miller Forristall round out the position, along with UDFA Joel Wilson out of Central Michigan.

Should the Saints add Moreau, the pass-catcher group will include another member with familiarity. The Saints also signed former Raiders WR Bryan Edwards to compete in camp. Moreau, who prepped at Jesuit in New Orleans, played with Carr from 2019-'22, catching 91 passes for 1,107 yards and 12 TDs.

The Saints' next step in the offseason will be rookie minicamp from May 12-14, followed by three sets of optional Organized Team Activities, then a mandatory minicamp in June, followed by the full training camp in late July.
