When Mark Ingram departed New Orleans before the 2019 season, he did so just 89 yards shy of Deuce McAllister on the team's all-time rushing list.

It appears he'll get a crack at the team's record after all, with the Saints pulling off another trade with the Houston Texans to bring back the veteran this week, according to a report from Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network.

The reunion comes to bolster the running back position, which had been thin since an ankle injury to Tony Jones Jr. The second-year UDFA won the backup job in the preseason and led the team to release veteran Latavius Murray, who has since landed in Ingram's former role with the Baltimore Ravens.

The Saints signed running back Devine Ozigbo off the Jacksonville Jaguars practice squad, but his usage has been limited with a vast majority of the workload going to superstar Alvin Kamara, who logged a career-high 30 touches in the win over the Seahawks.

Ingram and Kamara represented a formidable duo for the Saints for multiple years, most notably in 2017 when the pair combined to roll up 3,094 total yards and 25 touchdowns.

Ingram began his career with the Saints after being selected No. 28 overall out of Alabama in the 2011 draft. He spent 8 seasons in New Orleans, rushing for 6,007 yards and 63 touchdowns, while adding 1,919 receiving yards and another 10 TDs in that span. Ingram has remained close with his former teammates, including defensive end Cam Jordan with whom Ingram hosts the podcast, "Truss Levelz."

Ingram has been a workhorse throughout his career, and has already toted the ball 92 times for 294 yards over the first seven games for a Texans team devoid of playmakers. It's the second trade already between the Saints and Houston this season, with New Orleans swinging a trade for cornerback Bradley Roby to fill another position of need shortly before the start of the season.

It's still unknown what the Saints sent the Texans as compensation in the deal, but it's expected to involve late-round, future picks, per Pelissero's report.
