Marcus Maye is the latest Saints player to wrap up a long-running legal saga this offseason.
The Saints safety has been sentenced to 6 months probation in plea deal stemming from a 2021 DUI charge, according to a report from ESPN's Katherine Terrell. The incident occurred while Maye was still a member of the New York Jets.
Maye will also have his driver's license suspended for 6 months and will have to complete 50 hours of community service, according to the report.
Maye had initially entered a not guilty plea, but changed it to no-contest earlier this offseason.
With the legal situation wrapped up, the NFL will now likely delve into the situation for potential discipline. Suspensions in DUI cases have typically ranged between 1 and 3 games.
Maye appeared in 10 games for the Saints in the 2022 season, but none of his seven games missed were due to suspension. He logged 60 tackles and 2 passes defensed, while also forcing a fumble. He looks to build on that performance in 2023 as he returns alongside veteran Tyrann Mathieu.
Should Maye be suspended to start the season, he'd join Alvin Kamara, who will miss the first three games in a suspension stemming from a Las Vegas incident prior to the 2021 Pro Bowl. Young players like Smoke Monday and Jordan Howden will be vying for snaps in that instance, along with veterans Johnathan and Lonnie Johnson Jr.
