The Saints have added yet another TE to the room this offseason.
The latest addition is that of Chris Herndon, according to a report from the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, a former 4th-round selection of the New York Jets who played the 2021 season as a member of the Minnesota Vikings.
Herndon is the second former Vikings TE signed in the past several weeks, along with Brandon Dillon who was a teammate of Herndon's a season ago.
The 28-year-old was drafted out of Miami in 2018 and spent three seasons in New York, starting 25 games and catching 71 passes for 796 yards, along with 8 touchdowns. Herndon started five games with the Vikings last season, but was used minimally in the passing game, logging just 4 receptions for 40 yards and a touchdown.
He'll join a crowded TE room, though it's possible there will be a corresponding move that eliminates a name from this group going forward. Thus far in camp the Saints TE room has consisted of Adam Trautman, Nick Vannett, Juwan Johnson, Taysom Hill, Lucas Krull, JP Holtz and Brandon Dillon. Johnson and Hill have both been battling injuries suffered early in camp. Johnson has been working back into drills the past several days, while Hill still has not returned since suffering a rib injury on the second day of camp.
The Saints return to practice for an unpadded day on Wednesday, before the pads come back on for Thursday and Friday's work.
