Saints sign depth linebacker amid mounting injuries; another OL heads to IR

As has been the trend so far in training camp, the New Orleans Saints have made another roster change on their off day.

This time it's on the defensive side of the ball with the signing of linebacker Mike Rose, a former Iowa State standout who has spent time with the Dolphins, Chiefs and St. Louis Battlehawks of the UFL.

The Saints announced the move on Tuesday, while also reverting OL Chandler Brewer to injured reserve, effectively ending his season. He's the latest player to end up on the list along with another lineman in Justin Herron and WR Jermaine Jackson.

Rose wasn't a college teammate of Saints tight end Michael Jacobson, but they were both at Iowa State at the same time with Jacobson a member of the basketball team. Rose joins a roster that's suddenly a bit thin at linebacker. Both Demario Davis (hamstring) and Pete Werner (shoulder) have missed time with injuries. In their absence we've seen increased roles for Willie Gay, Anfernee Orji, D'Marco Jackson and Monty Rice.

The Saints are back in action for another pair of padded practices on Wednesday and Thursday before heading out to Arizona for their preseason opener against the Cardinals.
