Saints make flurry of roster moves, sign pair of OL as another lands on IR

The New Orleans Saints were busy on their off day, making four roster moves, all along the offensive line.

Here's how those moves break down:
- Waived: OT Mark Evans
- Sent to IR: OT Justin Herron
- Signed: G Tremayne Anchrum Jr.
- Signed: T Jesse Davis

It's disappointing news for Herron, who signed with the Saints earlier this offseason and was in line to compete for a depth role or practice squad spot, but he limped off the field early in training camp and did not return. Placing players on injured reserve in the preseason ends their season barring an injury settlement, indicating the injury was more significant than it was initially believed.

The Saints also moved on from Evans, a player who joined New Orleans as a UDFA prior to the 2023 season and spent the year on the practice squad.

Anchrum, 26, is a former 7th round pick of the L.A. Rams (2020) and was a member of the Super Bowl champion roster in the 2021 season. Anchrum is also a two-time national champion in college, winning a pair of titles with Clemson (2016 and 2018). In his career Anchrum has appeared in 31 games with one start. He began the 2024 season with the Seahawks but was waived on July 24.

Davis, meanwhile, is a 32-year-old NFL veteran who has spent time with the Seahawks, Jets, Steelers, Vikings, Dolphins and 49ers since entering the NFL as a UDFA out of Idaho. Davis has appeared in 95 games with 72 starts, a majority of which came during his 5-year stint in Miami from 2017-'21. Davis also has a connection with new Saints OC Klint Kubiak, with the pair both spending the 2023 season with the 49ers, though Davis only logged five special teams snaps all season.

New Orleans signed another veteran in Chandler Brewer earlier in the week.

The Saints are back in action on Monday for their first padded practice of the offseason.
