Saints tight end Jimmy Graham was at the center of a confusing incident Friday evening in Southern California, and one that the team has reported to be a medical incident that resulted in police intervention.
Tight end Jimmy Graham was arrested Friday, according to a report from TMZ, after police received calls of a man behaving erratically near a resort in the area.
The report said the Graham was seen by police walking in the street and initially resisted being taken into custody, and he was suspected of being under the influence of a controlled substance.
The Saints released a statement Saturday morning stating that Graham had suffered a "medical episode" and possible seizure that resulted in him being disoriented.
Graham was released from police custody and hospitalized, where he was overseen by Dr. John Amoss. He has since rejoined the team.
Graham, 36, re-signed with the Saints earlier this offseason after spending multiple seasons with the Seahawks, Packers and Bears, then spending a season out of the NFL. The veteran TE and the Saints have been in the Costa Mesa area this week conducting joint practices with the L.A. Chargers.
The Saints and Chargers were scheduled to play in a preseason game at 4 p.m. Sunday, though the prospect of that appears to be in doubt with Hurricane Hilary looming off the coast and expected to impact the area early on Monday. As of 9 p.m. there had been no changes to the scheduled game.
