Sean Payton is in an unfamiliar situation. He won't be a head coach, and he's still unclear what his job will be for the 2022 NFL season, but that could soon change.
The now-retired Saints head coach has had several positive meetings to potentially join the broadcast crews with one of FOX or Amazon amid announcer shuffling at those networks, he said on SportsTalk this week. He expects to have an answer in the next 7-10 days.
"I’ve had some really good visits and I’m excited to see how it unfolds," Payton said.

But one thing he's not interested in talking about is where he might end up coaching again if the broadcast shift doesn't work out. He says he's fully committed to it, and if it works out, he might never get back into coaching. But he wouldn't rule out any team should he return, because that's not what it would it be about if it happened.
“Here’s the thing … you can’t project teams or predict teams or anything like that. Look, you’re sitting next to a guy that went to Atlanta," Payton said, referring to former Saints quarterback Bobby Hebert. "But the point is, it’s still about people. It’s not about the teams and the divisions, it’s really about the people and the framework of clubs. It’s one of the things that we really worked hard at … that culture and enjoying coming to work, everyone pitching in and not worrying about who gets the credit, because if we do that then it’s easy to sell our team on that. But as it pertains to like, in the future, holy cow … the last thing I’m thinking about is 4 years from now.”
