New video released this week shows a clearer picture of Saints running back Alvin Kamara's involvement in an alleged assault outside an elevator at a Las Vegas nightclub prior to the 2021 Pro Bowl.
Kamara and three others, including Bengals cornerback Chris Lammons, were officially indicted in the incident last week and are scheduled for a March 2 court date. The assault victim, Darnell Greene, has also filed a $10 million civil lawsuit against Kamara.
Las Vegas TV station 8NewsNow shared two videos that show the brawl that occurred in the early morning hours of Feb. 5, 2022 at Drai's Nightclub. One video is a higher-resolution version of a video that was circulated by TMZ in November. Another video from a bathroom hallway shows the reverse angle, and gives a clearer picture of Kamara's involvement in the beating itself. Neither video gives a clear picture of what spurred the incident, but both show Greene being knocked against the wall with Kamara the first to engage at that point and appearing to throw a punch before they tumble to the ground. Kamara can be seen throwing at least three punches after the action gets to the ground, at which point he stands up, appears to collect his phone and departs.
At least two other members in the group continued to punch and kick Greene while he was on the ground even after Kamara had walked away. Along with Kamara and Lammons, Christopher Young and Percy Harris have been indicted. Harris is identified as Kamara's manager, according to the report.
Kamara's lawyers said in a statement that he intends to argue in court that "he was defending himself and others" during the incident. A police report following Kamara's arrest stated that the altercation began as Greene attempted to enter the elevator alongside Kamara and his group. No video showing that portion of the altercation has yet surfaced.
Once the legal situation is concluded with Kamara, the NFL will likely levy discipline of its own relative to the league's personal conduct policy. Indications are that such a suspension could be anywhere from 4-8 games, though that will be at the discretion of the league.
