Cam Jordan crashed Wil Lutz’s post game press conference to explain what happened happened on the kicker’s game-winning attempt.
“His clutch gene kicked in,” Jordan said. “The adjustment was ‘Wil Clutch’ came through in the end.”
Lutz hit a 35-yard field goal to give the Saints a 26-23 win against the Chicago Bears in overtime Sunday. He said he was glad he got the opportunity to attempt the kick as he felt responsible for the team being in that position. In the second quarter of Sunday’s matchup, Lutz’s 27-yard attempt bounced off the right upright.
“I felt like the whole game that we shouldn’t have been in that position because I should have made the first one,” he said. “The biggest thing for me is my operation and to confidence in me to go out and make that and teammates had the confidence in me to make that kick.”
Lutz made four field goals in Sunday’s game. He said it felt good to have that type of performance after he missed two field goals in the teams’ 2019 matchup.
“There’s a reason this is one of the hardest places to kick. The conditions were about as bad as we’ve been in but at the end of the day when my number is called I’m expected to make them. So obviously, I didn’t get through Scott free this year at the end of the day it just felt good to get another shot so you know we’re happy with the win.”
