Back-to-back Hammond shootings leave teen dead, another wounded

One teen is dead and another is recovering after two separate shootings that happened within minutes and blocks of each other.

The first shooting happened around 9:45 p.m. Friday on Natchez Street near Corbin Road. Police say they found a 16-year-old boy dead in the roadway when they arrived at the scene.

About 10 minutes later, those officer heard another round of gunshots nearby. Investigators found the second shooting scene about three blocks away in Live Oak Street near South Scanlan Street. Police say a 19-year-old woman was shot at that location. She was taken to the hospital with what police say are non-life-threatening injuries to the leg. She has since been released from the hospital.

Police have not said if they believe the two shootings are related.
