Barge worker goes missing in Mississippi River near Harahan

The United States Coast Guard has suspended its search for a man who went missing Saturday while working on a barge in the Mississippi River in Jefferson Parish.

According to Coast Guard officials, Darrel Robertson, 56, was working on a barge near the Huey P. Long Bridge when he went missing. Officials with the company for which Robertson worked called Coast Guard watchstanders around 3 a.m. Saturday to report that he had disappeared.

A helicopter crew searched the area to no avail.

Robertson stands 5’9” and weighs around 155 pounds. He’s described as a Black man wearing blue coveralls. His life jacket was found on the barge.
