New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell is once again flying the friendly skies. This time, Cantrell is traveling to Canada.
According to a news release sent by Cantrell's office around 1 a.m. Tuesday, Cantrell is attending the Montréal Climate Summit today and tomorrow.
"The purpose of the summit is to discuss climate issues that impact cities across North America and to recognize the important need to share information that will propel climate transition initiatives for today and well into the future," the release states.
The release quotes Cantrell, who said, "When you hear the reports of how climate issues are impacting emergency weather conditions, it is vital to have a collective mission to proactively plan for climate issues because we are stronger together."
This is the jet-setting mayor's latest trip for a conference on the city's dime. Already this year, she's flown to Miami; Santa Barbara, California; and Washington, D. C., for various conferences.
These trips come months after she survived a recall effort that stemmed partly from outrage related to reports that showed she spent thousands of dollars of public funds on flight upgrades to conferences she attended around the world. Cantrell ultimately repaid the city for those expenses.
