Will a federal indictment ground New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell? The charges could curtail the mayor's travel habits.
"The magistrate judge will impose a travel restriction," said Loyola School of Law Professor Dane Ciolino.
He said that restriction could be as tight as the federal court's Eastern District of Louisiana, but may allow for travel nationwide, but likely not out of the country.
"Almost always, an international travel restriction, a defendant sometimes having to give up his or her passport," Ciolino explained. "As to out-of-state travel, I imagine that will be something discussed at the hearing."
For now, if the mayor wants to travel, she will likely have to first get permission from the court.
